  • First we add layer on the bottom of the suite of Chipsi classic - which is a scent free, kiln dried softwood chippings (not to be confused with sawdust which is NOT recommended for hamsters).

  • On top of that, we add another layer of absorbent, soft paper from Kayee Clean & Cozy, this is great for holding up the burrow and for keeping them nice and warm.

  • We also add in some dried moss on one side to vary the textures and encourage digging. This is specific moss that is suitable & safe for hamsters and other small pets.

  • We also add in the ultimate messy playground for them to get stuck into - Coco soil - natural coconut fibres, absorbent, low scent and perfect for digging and playing in!

BEDDING FOR HAMSTERS

"THIS WAS MY FIRST TIME USING ANY ANIMAL BOARDING SERVICE AND IT WAS PERFECT!"

"I 100% would recommend Ballinderry Boarding. My wee hamster Willow and my sister's conure Ozzie stayed for 10 days and the service/care was amazing! 🐹🦜 They were well looked after with treats and attention everyday and we absolutely loved the many photos and videos Denise sent, she was amazing! This was my first time using any animal boarding service and it was perfect!"

Lauren Martin

"FANTASTIC! COULDN'T RECOMMEND ENOUGH!"

"Fantastic! My hamster Picasso was absolutely spoiled when he stayed during the summer! Couldn't recommend enough! Loved seeing the little updates and photos that were sent through!

  • Hamsters love a sand bath, not only is it so entertaining for us to watch, but its really important for their coat. They roll around in it to absorb oil and exfoliate their skin to keep their fluffy coats looking beautiful. We half fill a large container with hamster safe sand & they can roll around until their heart is content!

  • A large standing wheel is essential - and size is important. For a hamster wheel for a Syrian hamster, the minimum size required is 28cm. For a hamster wheel for a Dwarf hamster, the minimum size is 21cm. We use a large 28cm wooden standing wheel in our suite which provides endless entertainment for our hamster guests - because nothing says 'living the dream' like running to nowhere in style.

  • Hides & tunnels - we add lots throughout the suite for them to choose their favourite hangout spot. For naptime, hamsters will head for their deep paper bedding (we use Kaytee soft & cosy), so we include cosy nooks buried in their bedding for them to sink into for the nap of their dreams.

  • We include some 2nd cut timothy hay and mixed dried foraging sprinkled throughout. Hay isn't essential for a hamster cage enclosure but we add it in as we have lots of it for our bunny, guinea pig and chinchilla boarding guests.

  • We get our dried foraging from Bunny Bistro which is safe & super delicious and and adds another element of variety to your hamsters diet.

  • We include some sprays of millet, flax & oat seeds dotted around the hamster cage for them to enjoy a nobble on. This mimics their natural environment by having them seek out their food in different places. We use sprays that are the same as most sprays advertised as safe for birds.

ENRICHMENT FOR HAMSTERS

We absolutely love how this huge hamster cage looks........but its made from wood, so we did a little bit of work first to make it safe, hygienic and suitable for all our hamster guests. Here's how we did it:

  • We painted the wood, inside and out, in Cuprinol Shades 'white daisy' to protect it from pee & poo staining.

  • We then reinforced all the corners and edges with metal, to foil any escape artist who fancied a good chew!

  • We have tiled & reinforced the bottom of the cage to thwart any nibblers from chewing and to further protect the paint.

  • We have added soooooo much enrichment to the hamster boarding suite that your hamster has so many toys to play with, that it will be like their own little private island and will have no interest in trying to chew out - but safety first!

We’ve carefully curated an Amazon storefront showing you everything we use & love in our luxury boarding retreat (trust us, we've tried the good, bad and the ugly of pet products over the years)!

What do I need to look after a rabbit? What does a guinea pig eat? Best hay for rabbits? What to clean a cage with? We show you all the best pet products for an easy life

So save yourself mountains of research, because we've already done it for you!

We've added a selection of personally chosen, trusted pet suppliers—each tried, tested, and most importantly, floof-approved!
