Totally unique design

We are the 1st small animal boarding facility in Northern Ireland to blend the overhead indoor to outdoor runs using our favourite supplier Omlet. 99% of rabbits do not enjoy being handled and our purpose-built suites allow bunnies to choose where they want to be, indoors or outdoors, when it suits them, not us!

What should our Rabbit expect from being a guest in your accommodation?

All rabbit boarding suites have been carefully designed to create an environment as close to their natural habitat as possible to bring out the ‘binkies & zoomies’ animal that we all love to see!

Luxurious hotel-like suites with large connecting indoor/outdoor personal areas giving your bunny a choice as to which spacious environment they prefer when they want it. Bunnies notoriously dislike being handled, and these suites are the perfect answer to give them all the fresh air and space they want on their terms, not ours, resulting in much happier, relaxed rabbits.

Indoor spaces are beautifully decorated with sumptuous bedding, enriching toys, and soft lush furnishings for their delicate feet. Fully insulated with double-glazed windows and doors. We use Snugglesafe heat pads in addition at night for extra toastiness & comfort during the winter months. Air cooling units are used during summer months if we are lucky enough to need them!

High ceilings. Rabbits like to stand up on their hind legs & enjoy having different levels to jump on to get a better view of what is going on around them, so we provide plenty of space to allow them to freely explore.

Indoor & outdoor tunnels that mimic burrows with vantage points and hiding spots to feel secure in a safe environment. We have installed Zippi tunnels & doors from Omlet UK to connect upper suites to their outdoor section and use their gorgeous waterproof play tunnel & shelter in all of the outdoor sections of the suites for hours of endless fun!

All connecting outdoor areas are open 24 hours for the rabbits to use for their daily exercise (except on frosty nights brrr) and are predator-proof, fully covered to protect from the elements, have solar lighting, artificial grass, combination locks for all doors and onsite 24-hour security cameras monitoring the entire area to ensure your pets’ stay is comfortable & safe.

What type of food would you provide for my rabbit?

A rabbit’s diet should be 85% good-quality hay or grass, 10% greens & 5% pellets. At Ballinderry Boarding we use locally sourced hay mixed with dried foraging and some freshly picked grass, seasonal veg such as romaine lettuce, basil, cabbage, red pepper & kale. We feed Burgess Excel nuggets with mint as the pellet choice. All food is included in the daily rate.

Water bowls are in all suites which have been proven to better hydrate rabbits than bottles and a more natural way for them to drink.

Life would be zero fun without treats and we use small quantities to encourage bonding and help the pet to understand that they are safe in their new environment. We use hay-based treats such as Selective Naturals & Burgess Nature Snacks and occasionally small pieces of fruit.

Jumbo foraging trays. Rabbits spend a lot of time searching for food naturally in the wild, and when they board with us, we encourage this positive behaviour by adding a variety of dried forage such as dandelion leaves, dried flowers, apple wood, strawberry leaves, etc. We have an excellent supplier called Bunny Bistro who sells the most wonderful, high-quality ingredients for us to blend with jumbo hay trays in turn encourages them to eat more slowly, increase their hay intake, and fill their day hunting for delicious food.

Playtime with Stacking cups

Bunnies are incredibly smart and one of their natural instincts is to hunt for their food. Using stacking cups to hide their pellets/ treats to find, creates an exciting game and aids digestion by slowing down how fast they eat!

24-hour access to personal outdoor runs

Each suite has its own, preditor-proof, grass-lined, toy-filled outdoor area with wonderful views over our extensive gardens in a wonderfully quiet, relaxing rural environment.

Large outdoor spacious suite options

If your rabbit is an outdoorsy type then they can avail of our 2 large, secure, walk-in, covered, well-lit outdoor suites.

Or if they enjoy being inside with 24-hour access to their own large private grassed area outside, then we have 4 large suites waiting for your bunny to enjoy.

What other types of service for pets are given to those staying at your small animal boarding?
  • Nail clipping and drop off/pick up outside of hours can be added to your online booking.

  • Lots of enrichment toys to chew on & play with. Rabbits are very smart animals and require stimulation to combat boredom.

  • Soothing classical music plays throughout the day. Studies have shown this reduces stress, improves their well-being & encourages positive behaviour.

  • We will send you lots of photos and updates for you to see how much they are enjoying their holiday, simply log in as & when it suits you rather than using Messenger or WhatsApp messages interrupting your holiday!

Our small pets can get ill sometimes. What pet care would they receive if they were to become ill during their holiday boarding?

As bunny owners ourselves, we understand the delicacy of bunny tummies and carefully monitor all guests for signs of upset. If we suspect any digestion issues, we are experienced in administering Fibreplex (a gut stimulant) and keep this on site. We regularly feed ‘Fibafirst’ sticks which are great for rabbits to increase fibre intake and stimulate digestion. If any boarder under our care becomes ill, we will seek immediate attention from our vet (Vets for Pets Sprucefield), discuss with owners, and take action accordingly.

Whilst in our care, we treat each visitor as if it were our own and in the case of being unable to contact the owner, we will make the decision for provision of care alongside our vet and always in the best interest of your family member.

We are experienced in the administration of medication such as Metacam and are happy to include this in our service at no additional charge. If your lovely animal has additional needs, please feel free to get in touch to discuss your pet’s needs and what we can offer.
All rabbits that board with us must have up-to-date vaccinations (against Myxomatosis, RVHD-1 & RVHD-2) & evidence must be provided upon booking on our online system.

All suites are cleaned daily and disinfected thoroughly between guests with pet-safe cleaners & disinfectants. Pet-safe insecticide & fly strike spray is regularly used throughout all the suites to keep everyone safe & healthy.
We cannot wait to welcome each guest into our very special home-from-home suites to be truly spoiled so you can enjoy your own holiday in the peace & knowledge that they quite possibly, may be having a better holiday than you!
